Position Description
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to design and develop mechanical systems for point-of-care diagnostic devices.
The role focuses on creating robust, ergonomic, and manufacturable designs, ensuring seamless integration with optical, fluidic, and electronic subsystems.
The position requires strong expertise in product design, prototyping, and manufacturing processes within a regulated MedTech environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design device enclosures and mechanisms to protect sensitive components from environmental factors.
- Develop mechanical interfaces such as cartridge slots, hinges, latches, and user-operated parts.
- Design test kits that integrate with device functionality.
- Ensure structural integrity under drop, vibration, and transport conditions.
- Design thermal management systems for electronic and optical components.
- Apply DFMA principles for plastic molding, sheet metal, and 3D printing.
- Conceptualize manufacturing processes, tools, fixtures, and automation systems.
- Integrate self-aligning features to reduce assembly time and errors.
- Prototype designs using 3D printing, CNC, and casting techniques.
- Perform testing including cycle testing, ingress protection, and environmental validation.
- Create CAD models, technical drawings, BOMs, and tolerance stack-ups.
- Collaborate with vendors for production readiness and scaling.
- Plan and manage projects to meet timelines and deliverables.
Education & Certification
- B.E. or M.E. in Mechanical Engineering or Product Design Engineering.
Required Skills
- 6+ years of experience in product design, preferably in medical devices.
- Hands-on experience in prototyping, GD&T, and industrial design collaboration.
- Strong knowledge of material selection and tolerance control.
- Proficiency in CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Creo.
- Familiarity with IP rating design, drop testing, and vibration standards.
- Knowledge of FEA for stress and thermal validation (preferred).
- Exposure to ISO 13485 documentation and design traceability (advantage).
