Senior Technical Architect / Lead
Computer Science – Devices Team
Specialization: Embedded Android & Linux Device Platforms
About Us
Bigtec Labs is a leading MedTech company dedicated to transforming healthcare through cutting-edge diagnostic solutions. With a team of 200+ professionals, we are on a mission to make a global impact.
Position Description
We are seeking a senior technical leader to lead the Devices Team within the Computer Science function for medical and diagnostic device platforms.
The role requires strong technical depth in embedded systems, Android/Linux platforms, operating system concepts, device-side applications, system architecture, and hardware-application integration.
The person will own device-side Computer Science delivery from prototype development through verification, design transfer, production release, and post-release support.
This is not a pure Android application developer role. The person will act as a senior technical leader and second line of leadership for device platforms, embedded applications, factory-edge systems, and cross-functional product development.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Devices Team within the Computer Science function, provide technical direction, mentor engineers, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality embedded software.
- Lead the design, development, integration, and maintenance of embedded Android/Linux applications for medical devices and diagnostic instruments.
- Define, review, and drive scalable architectures for device platforms, embedded applications, operating system services, hardware interfaces, factory tools, and connected-device workflows.
- Guide development across Android, Linux, system services, hardware interfaces, firmware integration, and peripheral communication protocols.
- Collaborate with Hardware, Firmware, R&D, NPI, Design & Development, QA, Manufacturing, Service, HQ, and Support/Surveillance teams.
- Drive Computer Science deliverables across prototyping, verification, validation, design transfer, production release, and post-release maintenance.
- Oversee the development and support of factory-side embedded applications, including testing jigs, production fixtures, calibration tools, QC automation, and manufacturing test systems.
- Collaborate with Platform, Data Engineering, AI/ML, and Support/Surveillance teams to integrate device data, logs, telemetry, diagnostic results, alerts, and traceability information reliably.
- Guide the design and implementation of operator-facing device interfaces and factory tools using Android Native UI, Qt/QML, Flutter, or equivalent embedded UI frameworks.
- Lead root-cause analysis of complex device issues spanning applications, operating systems, firmware, electronics, mechanics, consumables, assay workflows, and user operations.
- Ensure adherence to software development processes, release management, version control, build management, testing, technical documentation, and applicable medical-device quality and regulatory requirements.
- Support engineering excellence through architecture reviews, code reviews, technical problem-solving, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong experience in embedded systems software development, with hands-on expertise in Android and/or embedded Android platforms.
- Good understanding of Linux internals and operating system concepts, including processes, memory management, multithreading, concurrency, and system services.
- Proven experience in hardware-software integration and application-level interaction with firmware, peripherals, and device components.
- Strong capabilities in system architecture, software design, technical decision-making, and end-to-end solution development.
- Experience leading technical teams, mentoring engineers, planning development activities, and managing engineering deliverables.
- Hands-on experience with device communication interfaces and protocols such as USB, UART/Serial, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Ethernet.
- Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills across software, hardware, and firmware.
- Experience with software release management, source control, build systems, automated/manual testing, and technical documentation.
- Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across software, electronics, firmware, hardware, R&D, QA, manufacturing, and service functions.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
- Experience developing software for medical devices, diagnostic instruments, laboratory equipment, or other regulated products.
- Familiarity with medical-device software lifecycle and quality standards, including IEC 62304, ISO 13485, usability engineering, and cybersecurity practices.
- Experience with design transfer, product industrialisation, productionisation, manufacturing integration, and sustaining engineering.
- Exposure to factory automation and embedded manufacturing systems, including test jigs, fixtures, calibration tools, QC automation, and production validation.
- Experience with embedded UI frameworks such as Android Native UI, Qt/QML, Flutter, or equivalent technologies.
- Understanding of AI/ML integration in embedded devices, including image/data acquisition, preprocessing, and edge or instrument-level inference workflows.
- Familiarity with connected-device support and surveillance workflows, including field logs, alerts, remote diagnostics, telemetry, and service data pipelines.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams spanning biology, chemistry, microfluidics, mechanics, electronics, analog systems, firmware, QA, and manufacturing.
